AE#2 Slanted reporting

As I diligently surf the internet looking for an example of slanted reporting I came across a video. Ok maybe not diligently. But I did come across a video about the above topic. This quick clip CNN gave reports on a "cash for guns" event in California. The funny thing about it is that they make it seem like there taking havoc causing death machines off the streets. But in actuality they are receiving a bunch of novelty toys that would have been sitting in a box collecting dust. The police reporter talks about how these guns are being used by gangs to commit heinous crimes. The only people I saw being interviewed where a bunch old people. Take a look and let me know how you feel in the comments below.

  1. Great topic to blog on! I have to agree with you that the report is a bit slanted, due to the fact I highly doubt that any of the people being interviewed are affiliated with any gangs! I have to say though, I do believe that some of the guns are probably really dangerous to fire from the way some of the people stored them. IDK ...good job though.

  2. I have to say I agree with both of you. I am pretty sure as you both said those lovely elder folks have never been in a gang before. I believe guns are dangerous, but it is the owner of the gun who makes it dangerous and not the gun itself. I think this is slightly slanted reporting.

  3. The people who would be considered "dangerous" would not be so willing to hand over their guns unless they had a sudden change of heart. This is a great example of slanted reporting. It was good to see those gun out of the hands of the people going into the old folks home... you got to look out haha

  4. Good point. This video is talking about cleaning up the community by "taking guns off the streets", but the only people turning in guns are elder people who don't use them anymore. Sounds more like a charity event to me. Deffinately a slanted report.

  5. Great example of slanted reporting because of how one-sided it was. Where was the money coming from to buy these guns? If it was taxpayers money I think many people would be upset about that, especially because those people were probably getting way more money than they would anywhere else. It must have been a great deal for the people selling there guns because there was people lining up to do it and they ran out of gift cards so quickly.
